Notes: Part 2

Deception Pass, WA

I think I have been an active user of Squarespace for at least 4-5 years now but you know what they say, everyday is a learning process. I just realized that I am not confined to linking my resume and contact info in my 'About Me' page even though that has been the norm for a lot of personal websites, portfolios and whatnot. Nonetheless, I decided to blow up the font size of my navigation and include those in the homepage (which is really essentially just my blog for now). Hopefully, that is better UX in regards to I have included some strong (and obnoxious) call out buttons to allow the user to click through and check out cool things I have built in the past.

Nothing too much going on today. The last day I worked was probably last Friday. Just kidding, I worked five hours yesterday but it literally kind of felt like nothing because time went by fast. I spent much of today catching up with a friend since he will soon be embarking on a three-month long vacation spread across a few different continents. I can't say that I'm not jealous. But I have decided to stay in the PNW even after graduation - let's do some math, I graduated in 2013, so technically I could have easily moved back to my hometown Hong Kong, but I have decided to extend my stay for another 4 years. Much of it really just came organically. I felt like I haven't explored this region enough. I got my driver's license maybe around 4 years ago and honestly, for someone that has spent much of her life growing up in a city without the need of owning a car, being able to drive over here is one of the best things ever.

Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity
— John Muir, Our National Parks

It has opened opportunities for me. It has allowed me to venture out to places that provide more tranquility and a change of pace. I love being in the city but what's great about being over here and not Hong Kong is that I can easily drive for an hour in almost any direction and reach a place that releases a different vibe and let alone get away from people. I have been explaining that to my friends lately. I have never really thought about why I love being in the PNW so much. Other than the fact that Seattle is becoming a more tech savvy city, I think what truly inspired me to stay is the accessibility to nature.
