Shiny New Things.

I'm moving...

...not quite. Hosting my personal portfolio on Squarespace has never really been a problem, especially when I was mainly tackling recruiters, friends, and acquaintances that are interested in the more conventional user experience design-type of work. Nonetheless, ever since I graduated from the Web Development Immersive Program from GA, I have decided maybe it was time for to migrate to a different type of site - the type where as a programmer, you should have the ability to design and code the vision you have in your mind.

The title of this post refers to exactly what I have in store for y'all. I finally built a personal portfolio that I have proud of. A lot still needs to be done (migrate once again from bitBalloon to GitHub Pages & Jekyll) but that will come later.

It was like a personal hackathon, or more like crunching out ideas after ideas in such a short amount of time and during the last stretch, I finally was able to sit down for four hours straight to get my site up and running. I was never a planner but when it comes to writing code, planning is preferable. Especially when you are writing a complex web application - you want to know how data should be rendered and displayed, and of course how to even bring in the data you need in the first place.

I employed a quick agile approach: sketched up some wireframes, looked up for more inspiration online, attended a feedback session with some friends to do casually critique one another's personal portfolios. I felt like I was cheating the system because I have mine on Squarespace. But honestly, my emphasis has always been because I want a blog and do minimal work to set it up. The purpose of having a blog is to that I can establish to communicate with the community in a more organic and raw manner. I want people to understand who I am and what I do aside from talking about why I absolutely want a job. I want them to experience my journey and the reasons that have brought me to where I am currently.

As I am typing now, time is also ticking away. I have precisely 43 minutes until the Meet & Greet. Hopefully I will be able to meet future employers, but secretly I have hoping to also engage in a substantive conversation about who I am and who they are. And some quick tracks to boost your Wednesday afternoon.
