Design For Social Change

I always try to dedicate more time to working on my freelance projects, but my actual full-time jobs always get in the way. It's July 4th today but I have chosen to stay in, supposedly to catch up with the volunteer gig I have going on with the SeaMar Community Health Centers.

I have been trying to read up more about designing for social change. The great thing about working with a team with such diverse backgrounds is that they would attach great articles in emails. Well, as I have mentioned, time has always been a constraint for me. I came out from a terrible weekend with too many hours scheduled. I had a half day off today but I spent most of it just catching up on sleep. I have indeed begun reading IDEO's book on Designing for Social Change (I actually don't quite remember the name). It's sparking some ideas for me. I think tomorrow I will actually build out something more concrete aka start getting those user personas rolling. The project we are working on involves tackling homelessness in Seattle. It reminds me so much of the articles and stories I encountered during my political economy classes. The problem is so huge that the scope of the problem becomes hard to identify. Nonetheless, the goal of our tiny popup creative agency is to build a solution that tackles part of the problem and hopefully evolves into something more sustainable in the future.

Aside from that, I have spending some time revamping my room. Cleaning up the room is a great form of procrastination. Lately, I have been feeling so much clutter in my room that I was super determined to change that. You can see the result below.

To end this short update, I made an appointment with a super talented tattoo artist over at True Love for a consultation. I have always longed for a third one that represents my travel goals. I am realistic in a way that I understand that it would take me a while to travel to all the places I want to be in. I am taking baby steps. And I am getting something inked in regards to that to remind me that I am never too old to chase my dreams and goals. I am super excited because Hannah Schell over at True Love Art Gallery has some intense skills with dotwork and that's my initial for my third piece of ink.

I have a pretty packed month coming up and the following month. I am trying to stay more focused on getting into UX and I will also be taking two separates. I'm heading over to Chicago in hopes to attend Lollapalooza (I have never been) and hopefully feel inspired. Then I am heading back home for 2.5 weeks. It's been 4 years since I have stepped foot in Hong Kong. I am super excited.
